A few days before Christmas day on the 20th December 2013, Bayport Financial Services one of the leading micro-lending companies in Botswana donated a two and a half roomed house worth P70, 000.00 to a Palapye resident, Miss Kedibonye Isaacs. Speaking at the handover ceremony the CEO of Bayport Financial Services, Mr Thata Father Maphongo informed the audience that this initiative is part of the company’s mission to give back to the communities in which they operate. He further stated that the house handover came at an appropriate time when families are getting together to share gifts at Christmas. Approached for assistance by the Palapye Constituency Office, Mr Maphongo related to the audience that Bayport agreed to help as they were deeply moved by the plight of the Isaacs family of ten who had been sharing a one roomed, grass-thatched house.
Delivering his keynote address, the guest of honour, the Vice President of Botswana, His Honour Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe, thanked Bayport and the Palapye Constituency Office for supporting the President’s Housing appeal, which seeks to deliver houses to the needy. Dr Kedikilwe informed the audience that compassion for one another is one of the many secrets for national unity and oneness, which are embedded in the traditional systems of the extended family care system, which glued communities together. The Vice President noted that the occasion brought fond memories of the traditional systems, “which should and must be revived as they provide robust and meaningful assistance”. He further stated that the President’s Housing Appeal initiative is part of a wider strategy by government to eradicate poverty in the country.
In his closing remarks, Member of Parliament for Palapye, Hon Moiseraele Goya applauded Bayport for their compassionate efforts towards the plight of their fellow Batswana. He further implored those in attendance to uphold the principle of Botho and be considerate to the plight of other Batswana.
